Into Orbit – Caverns

Caverns is the debut album from Wellington experimental rock duo Into Orbit. They create instrumental music which is a hybrid of post-rock, metal, prog-rock, ambient and drone/noise music.  They have drawn comparisons with artists such as Russian Circles, Isis, Jakob, Genesis, Tool, Metallica, My Bloody Valentine and Mike Oldfield.

They remind me very much of Mogwai, but with some metal elements.  Don’t be put off by the metal tag, these moments are used to create the soundscapes or enhance the gravity of the song.  I have to admit that after a night of listening to Into Orbit, I was reaching out for Loop Collision.   If you like your ambient drone less floaty and ethereal, but more dark and stormy this is definitely for you.
