Tape Runs Out – Flowers / Friends

a0018462225_10There is nothing I like more than a double A-side (with the exception of a Spacemen 3 box set).  There have been been some classics over the years Penny Lane / Strawberry Fields Forever, Let’s Spend the Night Together / Ruby Tuesday and probably most important Fools Gold / What the World is Waiting For.  So when Cambridge band Tape Runs Out release a debut single which is a double A-side, that is the sort of thing that will really turn heads.  They are able to pull it off too the quiet offbeat drums of Friends sound chilled and blissed out.  The whole song reminds me of Dummy era Portishead, yet very influenced by 80’s indie, The Cure and Cocteau Twins.

The single is available from Ear To Ear Records.  An album follows later this year.
